Isuzu Axiom

Hailing from the land of automobile engineering and technology, Isuzu has developed a reputation over the years in manufacturing different classes of car starting from small car, sedan to SUV's. Isuzu is appreciated for its powerful and efficient diesel engine which is used in trucks and SUV's. Isuzu demands Axiom as its most sophisticated sport utility vehicle debuted for the 2002 model year. The car was designed in Japan using a "knife blade" theme for its car like styling. The name Axiom came up through a naming contest that was organized by Isuzu and was won by a citizen of Redondo, Washington.

Vehicle Overview

In the first production year, 2002, the car had two models - Base and XS. Then in the year 2003 and 2004 the company decided to bring few changes in the fittings and accessories of Base and XS models renaming the base model S. The Axiom is available in 230-hp and 3.5 liter V-6 (regular gas) engine with a 4speed auto transmission. Axiom has both RWD (Rear Wheel Drive) and 4WD (4 Wheel Drive) options. Axiom has a 19.5 gallon fuel tank and fuel economy of 17mpg - 18mpg depending on the model. A second-generation Intelligent Suspension Control uses multiple sensors that adjust shock-absorber damping at 17 different settings to suit various road conditions.

Exterior

The Axiom features body colored front and rear bumper, body colored grille, rear step bumper and clear coat monotone paint. The additional features are arched roofline and sculpted wheel arches over geometric-shaped, six-spoke, and 17- inch aluminum wheels. It has an ample ground clearance in spite of having a lower centre of gravity. To minimize damage during ground collision the front bumper is positioned at a height similar to that of passenger cars.

Interior

Axiom has a standard sitting capacity of five. The interior is cozy and maintains a conformingly pleasant contrast with the exterior. The SUV is equipped with four powered with for way power adjustment for the driver and the split, folding rear seat with fold down armrests. The interior is more like a European sedan than an SUV and the windowsills are somewhat high because of the lower hip line.

Standard equipment includes heated power mirrors, vinyl upholstery, power windows and locks,keyless entry and a cassette stereo with a 6-CD changer. Heated front seats, leather upholstery and a power passenger seat are standard in this step-up XS version. The Axiom's cargo volume is a total of 85.4 cubic feet when the backseat is folded.

Active and Passive Safety

Axiom is fitted with dual front airbags and antilock brakes are standard. Only 4WD models are installed with all disc brakes. High-strength steel beams integrated into the doors that are designed to absorb and dissipate energy in the event of a side impact. The other features of the SUV are 4 doors curb light, key in ignition warning, low fuel warning, service interval warning, ignition disable, panic alarm and security system.

Isuzu Axiom replaced the Trooper but was itself replaced by the Isuzu Ascender for the 2005 model year. Aximo was last manufactured in the year 2004.
